Ridgewood Launches Pedestrian Safety Month
Contact: Marlene Lubinger (201) 925-4549
The Community Citizens' Safety Advisory Committee (CSAC) is launching a pedestrian safety awareness campaign, entitled, "Crosswalk Safety - It's a Two-Way Street."
The campaign, which will kickoff this Saturday, will focus on the shared responsibility drivers and pedestrians have with respect to the Village's many crosswalks. There have been several pedestrian accidents over the past year, and Village officials have worked to address the situation through enhanced enforcement of traffic laws, engineering changes, and community-wide education initiatives.
"Drivers must stop at crosswalks. Pedestrians must use them. It's that simple and that important," explained Councilman Paul Aronsohn, who chairs the CSAC. "Pedestrian safety is Ridgewood's number one issue."
During Saturday's kickoff, volunteers will be handing out information and giveaways at crosswalks throughout Ridgewood's central business district. Several local dignitaries, including Bergen County officials, will be on hand at different times of the day.
